On 20th we drove to Reddings, ca to view the annular solar eclipse. This was my first time viewing annular solar eclipse. We saw beautiful ring formed by moon being exactly at the center of the sun. It was well worth the 4 hour drive. Vilas came with us.
For about a week I tried finding the solar shades but no luck. The shipping was expensive. Then tried finding welding glasses but Home Depot ran out of them. So finally had to go without then and had to use CDs to view eclipse. But viewing through CDs was perfect. We also use other techniques like projecting sun through binocular and that turned out to be great for photography.
